How to set up email filters in Gmail

Manual email filters to organize your Gmail

Gmail filters are a great way to manually create rulesets to filter your incoming email. With some work and ongoing maintenance, you can set up your Gmail inbox to automatically stay organized leaving you with a productive inbox. 

In this example, you will learn how to create a Gmail filter to automatically apply a special label to all incoming Daily Summary emails from Clickup, a popular project management platform.

  1. Login to Gmail!
  2. Click Gear Icon and then click on Go To All Settings.

  1. Select the tab labeled Filters and click on Create a new filter.

  1. Select how you want your emails to be filtered. 
    In this example, we want to filter all Daily Summary emails from Clickup. Knowing these emails maintain “Daily Summary” in the subject, “Daily Summary” can be entered in the subject field.

  1. Click Create Filter.
  1. Check the box for Apply the Label.
  1. Select an existing label or create a new one.
    In this example, we will create a new label for Daily Summary emails so we can reference them in the future. Click Create after entering the name of the new label. You will see a new folder has been created in your inbox.

  1. Click Create Filter
    Optionally, if you want to apply this filter and the new label to all existing emails, check the box “Also apply filter to XX matching conversations.”
